News about the College's Veterans Memorial in the July Bullet Points led to an unexpected gift when
music composition major Jeff Binner '14 sent the link to his father, Chris Binner.
"Valley Forge Flag Company would like to donate the flags that you will use for the Memorial," wrote Chris, the company's vice president of marketing and sales.
"As a family we thought this is pretty special for the College, to not only recognize our military veterans for their service and commitment to this great nation, but those veterans also affiliated with Gettysburg College," Chris said. "How fitting for a school located in such a historic setting and of military importance."
A self-described "military brat," Chris added, "My father, Jeff's grandfather, is a highly decorated WWII and Korean Conflict combat veteran. He is 92. I have taken him out to the College several times. He is extremely proud that Jeff is going to Gettysburg, and advancing his education there. For my wife Laura and me, the memorial represents another reason to make a trip with him and I look forward to that."
The U.S., state, and College flags will fly at the memorial's dedication Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. outside Musselman Stadium. Alumni, parents, and the public are invited. For info, search for "veterans memorial" at www.gettysburg.edu
Nominations needed for honorary degrees, alumni awards
Alumni, parents, and friends can submit nominations for honorary degrees, the highest recognition the College bestows.
Recipients can be distinguished artists, scholars, clergy, corporate or business leaders, humanitarians, or public leaders. Some are alumni, but many are not.
