Robert Ortenzio ’79 added to Benefactors Wall

Robert OrtenzioPrior to the official dedication of the new Center for Athletics, Recreation, & Fitness in April, a ceremony was held at the Benefactors Wall to recognize the addition of Robert Ortenzio's name.

The Benefactors Wall was constructed with funds donated by Gettysburg's 12th President, Gordon Haaland, and his late wife, Carol. Dedicated in 1999, the wall recognizes individuals and organizations who have contributed $1 million or more to the college. Ortenzio's name marked the 36th engraving.

Ortenzio donated $3 million to the Center. "I made my initial gift in 2006 because athletics was an important part of my experience at Gettysburg," said Ortenzio, who is chief executive officer of Select Medical Corporation in Mechanicsburg, Pa. "When I visited last December, I saw how well it connects the entire College community, and I wanted to recognize that in a meaningful way."

Ortenzio was an All-America wrestler for the Bullets and was inducted into the Gettysburg College Hall of Athletic Honor in 1999.
